The Planning, Quality, and Core Service Program ensures the health department accomplishes its mission by providing support in needs assessment, program planning, program monitoring and tracking, and improving the quality of health services. The program divides its work into the following functional units:  Planning, Quality & Accreditation, Core Service Activities, Local Management Board, and Special Projects.

 

Planning - tracks community health needs, organizes strategic planning, coordinates grant activities, protects patient rights through Institutional Review Board activities, and participates in a variety of health planning committees and councils

Worcester County health assessments and health improvement plans: The Worcester County community health assessment (CHA) and community health improvement plan (CHIP) are developed by Worcester County Health Department with the assistance and advice of the Worcester County Health Planning Advisory Council & Local Health Improvement Coalition.

Quality & Accreditation:
establishes and maintains agency accreditation, coordinates and facilitates quality improvement activities, provides staff training, and develops and maintains agency dashboard measures.alt
  • The Joint Commission: Worcester County Health Department’s behavioral and ambulatory care programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission which requires strict adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety in patient care.
  • Public Health Accreditation Board: As of 2014, Worcester County Health Department has received additional accreditation, with a primary focus on the provision of top quality core public health services, under the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB)

Core Service Activities:
serves as the local behavioral health authority responsible for the planning and monitoring of mental health and substance abuse programming

Local Management Board: brings together existing resources at the local level and uses them in innovative ways; ensures implementation of localized, inter-agency service delivery systems for children, youth, and families through a partnership with the Government Office of Children

What’s the Bottom Line on the Risks of E-cigarettes for Kids, Teens, and Young Adults?

  • The use of e-cigarettes is unsafe for kids, teens, and young adults.
  • Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s.1

Winter storms create a higher risk of car accidents, hypothermia, frostbite, carbon monoxide poisoning, and heart attacks from overexertion. Winter storms and blizzards can bring extreme cold, freezing rain, snow, ice, and high winds.

Take Care During Winter Storms:

  • Stay off roads.
  • Stay indoors and dress warmly.
  • Prepare for power outages.
  • Use generators outside only and away from windows.
  • Listen for emergency information and alerts.
  • Look for signs of hypothermia and frostbite.
  • Check on neighbors.

Local Health Improvement Coalitions (LHICs) equip local jurisdictions to determine their public health priorities and address specific public health concerns. The Worcester County Local Health Improvement Coalition seeks a broad membership from the community to assist the local health department and its partners in determining local health priorities and the Community Health Improvement Plan.
