Worcester County Holds Operation Medicine Drop

Snow Hill, Md. (October 18, 2013) – Operation Medicine Drop, a one-day drug take back effort, has been slated for Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Worcester County residents are encouraged to bring unwanted, unused, or expired over-the-counter and prescription medications to several locations throughout the county.

Local law enforcement will ensure the medications are safely disposed of to prevent potentially harmful substances from entering our waterways or from being abused, misused, or ingested by children.
The locations for dropping off medications are as follows:
  • Pocomoke Health Department, 400-A Walnut Street, Pocomoke City, Md. 21851
  • Snow Hill Health Department, 6040 Public Landing Road, Snow Hill, Md. 21863
  • Keyser Point Road Firehouse, 10124 Keyser Point Road, West Ocean City, Md. 21842 (Keyser Point Road off Route 50)
  • South Gate Firehouse – South Ocean Pines, 911 Ocean Parkway, Ocean Pines, Berlin, Md. 21811 (Manklin Creek Road and Route 589)
  • Ocean City Police Department – Public Safety Building, 6501 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, Md. 21811
  • Berlin Police Department, 10 Williams Street, Berlin, Md. 21811
“We also want Worcester County residents to know that the Town of Ocean City now offers a year round drop off of medications at their new drop box located at the 65th Street and Coastal Highway Public Safety Building,” announced Kathy Philipps, Assateague COASTKEEPER, “and Ocean Pines residents have a permanent drop box located at the Ocean Pines Police Station.  This is a huge benefit to the community and gives folks an option to clean out their medicine cabinets more often.”

This event is sponsored by the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, Ocean City and Berlin Police Departments, Maryland State Police, Worcester County Health Department and Assateague Coastal Trust.   For more information, visit www.actforbays.org.
