Healthy Lifestyles include services such as; Nutrition Counseling, Physical Activity Assessment, Lunch Time Fitness, Chronic Disease Prevention, Just Walk and Worksite Wellness.


 

Nutrition Counseling

Free one-on-one dietary counseling by a Registered and Licensed Dietitian for individuals requiring special dietary needs. 

Physical Activity Assessment

Free health screening which includes resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition (body fat%, BMI, waist to hip ratio), diabetes risk, muscular strength, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory endurance. Individual results counseling provided by either a Registered Dietitian or an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Specialist.  
 

Lunch Time Fitness

Lunch Time Fitness $25 (Scholarships available for those unable to pay), 12-week moderate level aerobic, strength training, and flexibility exercise program. Program offered three days a week from 12:30-1 p.m. at the Worcester County Recreation Center, Snow Hill. The program can be brought to community and faith-based sites in Worcester County.

Current program: Jan. 7-March 25.

 

Chronic Disease Prevention

Includes health promotion, patient education, and community programs designed to increase healthy behaviors and reduce diabetes mortality and morbidity. Includes risk reduction programs, nutrition and education and counseling, screenings for blood pressure, health assessments, and physical activity assessments. Promotes physical activity through a walking club called "Just Walk" which offers incentives, education, and recognition for becoming physically active. Custom designed work site wellness programs are available and provide custom health education and screenings for promoting employee health.
 

Lifestyle Balance Program

 

What is the Lifestyle Balance Program? It is a FREE program designed to teach participants how to make healthy lifestyle changes. The Heath Department program helps participants lose weight, improve diet, increase physical activity, and reduce the risk of developing diabetes. 
 
This program is titled “Lifestyle Balance” because it teaches you how to reach a healthy balance between what you eat and how active you are.
 
Participants experience many health benefits as a result of this program, including:
  • Get fit,
  • Lose weight,
  • Lower blood pressure, body fat, & cholesterol,
  • Reduced risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer,
  • Establish networks and friendships.

Winter storms create a higher risk of car accidents, hypothermia, frostbite, carbon monoxide poisoning, and heart attacks from overexertion. Winter storms and blizzards can bring extreme cold, freezing rain, snow, ice, and high winds.

Take Care During Winter Storms:

  • Stay off roads.
  • Stay indoors and dress warmly.
  • Prepare for power outages.
  • Use generators outside only and away from windows.
  • Listen for emergency information and alerts.
  • Look for signs of hypothermia and frostbite.
  • Check on neighbors.

The Worcester County Local Health Improvement Coalition seeks a broad membership from the community to assist the local health department and its partners in determining local health priorities and the Community Health Improvement Plan.
